Abstract:
The purpose of this document is to scope the requirements of a groundwater protection code for surface water drainage under the Groundwater Regulations 1998 (GWR98). This document has considered the legislative background governing surface water drainage. Existing
guidance has been reviewed to identify design and operational criteria that need to be adopted to ensure protection of surface water and groundwater with the objective of complying with the Groundwater Regulations, 1998. The process by which surface water drainage is regulated has also been reviewed and described both for new proposals and for existing systems.
