Abstract:
This report describes the evaluation of a Hydrolab DS3 water quality logger. It is designed for field use in fresh or saline water to measure dissolved oxygen, temperature, conductivity, pH, and redox. The instrument functioned well during the tests. The accuracy of the measurements were found to be within the measurement uncertainty of the reference systems. No significant flow effects were found. The only sensor slightly affected by temperature was D/0 which changed by approximately 0.23% per C. As with all field instruments careful maintenance and calibration is required before deployment in order to obtain readings within the accuracy found in these tests. Deployment of over 1 month is not recommended because of the limitations of the batteries and because the D/0 membrane seems to become prone to drift.
