Abstract:
The NRA South West region has thus far, only formally identified water quality objectives for tidal waters where areas have been identified under the particular European Commission Directives (eg. Bathing Water Directive and Shellfish Waters Directive). This report is the result of an exercise which has been carried out to identify all legitimate uses in tidal waters around the region. The identification of uses is essential because water quality standards are assigned to each use. In any particular water the more stringent standard of the relevant uses will apply. These form the basis of targets to maintain and improve water quality.
