Title: River Tyne drinking water intake risk assessment
Author: Environment Agency North East Region Northumbria Area
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This report analyses the River Tyne drinking water intake risk assessment. The River Tyne and its tributaries are a major source of public water supply. Northumbrian Water Ltd (NWL) operates a Water Treatment Works that abstracts raw water from the River Tyne at Ovingham, near Prudhoe. The Environment Agency, in collaboration with NWL, has undertaken a risk assessment project with the aim of reducing the number of pollution incidents that could potentially contaminate the River Tyne. Reducing pollution in the drinking water catchment area will not only safeguard public health, but also have significant benefits towards enhancing the natural water environment.
