Abstract:
This document provides a regional focus on the issues raised by the national review, reflecting current views of water resources in the Thames Region and providing a strategy for the sustainable management of the regions resources to meet future demands to 2021. The strategy aims to: provide a framework for the future planning an d sustainable management of water resources within the Thames Region to meet the reasonable needs of public water supplies, industry and agriculture; secure proper safeguards for the water environment; identify opportunities to enhance the water environment, particularly in association with new schemes or the alleviation of low river flows; respond to the reasonable expectations of social and economic development; sustain the long-term potential of the natural resource for future use.
