Abstract:
Rivers are important features of our landscapes. They drain water from the land and are an important habitat for wildlife. The term river corridor is used to describe areas influenced by a watercourse linking sectors of wildlife interest. It typically covers the river, its banks and the land close by, sustaining corridors of wildlife in an otherwise agricultural or urban landscape. This NRA leaflet contains sections on what is RED and why is it needed; how work was done: methods; what the survey produced: examples; ho is REDS being used; river maintenance programme; Catchment Management Plans; environmental assessment; monitoring; research and conservation; computing facilities; and the future.
