The catchment of the Hampshire Avon is located in the south of England. [...] The overall catchment area is about 1,750 square kilometres, and has a population of around 230,000. Only two per cent of the catchment is urbanised. As well as Salisbury and Christchurch, its main urban areas include Warminster. At Salisbury, the Avon is joined by two of its major tributaries - the River Bourne and the River Nadder (including the River Wylye), and a short distance downstream by the River Ebble.The Hampshire Avon catchment is characterised by open chalk downland with steep scarp slopes, sheltered valleys, chalk hills, ridges and limestone plateaux.
